CERAMIC LINED ROTARY VALVES,
DIVERTER VALVES, AND DOME VALVES

Omegaslate (UK) Ltd. are experts in the application of advanced ceramic to combat wear in rotary valves, diverter valves, and dome valves.

Valves can be successfully refurbished by the application of alumina and silicon carbide advanced ceramics. Worn out valves, which would otherwise have been discarded, are received by our valve refurbishment centre from national and international organisations to be ceramic-lined by Omegaslate

It is usual for our lining systems to give many years of continuous operating life to valves which might otherwise wear out in a few weeks: we have had ceramic lined rotary valves lined by us returned to us after 5 years continuous operation for a 0.015" regrind, when prior to the application of our ceramic lining they were wearing out in 4 to 8 weeks.

Advanced ceramics are the most cost-effective solution in cases of extreme abrasive wear and are amongst the hardest materials available. Selected grades of alumina ceramic and fine grain engineering grade reaction-bonded silicon carbide are typically used in our bespoke systems. Depending on the ceramic and the grade used, hardness ranges from 1100 to 3000 Hv. Wear life offered is between 30 and 200 times that of cast iron.

Ceramic Lined Valves: Valve Refurbishment
Omegaslate's advanced ceramic lining system is used to protect the wear surfaces of the valve and achieves between 10 and 20 times greater wear life than can be obtained from flame sprayed tungsten carbide coatings (at only 2.5 times greater wear life).

Ceramic lined valves lead to lower operating costs: ceramic lined rotary valves have an extended life vs non-lined valves, thus resulting in lower maintenance/replacement costs.

Valve Body: 6mm or 10mm thick alumina or reaction bonded silicon carbide advanced ceramic castings are bonded into the valve body, with a high performance fully flexible adhesive, and fully diamond ground to provide a very accurate wear and corrosion resistant low friction lining system.

The diamond-ground ceramic rotor bore lining system is mechanically secured and bonded in position and protected against impact damage with steel impact protection devices.

End Plates: The valve end plates, on valves with open valve rotors, are fitted with 6mm thick diamond ground lining systems.

Stuffing Box Seals: Diamond ground ceramic tubes are used to protect the section of the rotor shaft that rotate in the stuffing boxes.

Rotor Bore: The ceramic lining system fitted to the rotor bore can be reground between 10 and 20 times before the system needs to be replaced.

You will see some examples of ceramic lined valves below, however due to the often confidential nature of our customers' industries we are not able to post a full range of our linings.
